Brock Lesnar Withdraws From UFC 106 Heavyweight Title Fight [UPDATED]
Posted by on 10.26.2009
Illness leaves upcoming show without a main event....
According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, Brock Lesnar has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming UFC Heavyweight Championship defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106. The report states that Lesnar has been ill with the flu for 3 1/2 weeks and has been unable to train. With the fight less than a month away, Lesnar has decided to pull out.
According to UFC President Dana White, Lesnar stated that he's "never been this sick in his life."
The company is now scrambling to determine what to do with the card. It's unknown if Carwin will still fight against a different opponent, or if he'll be pulled from the card entirely. UFC 106 is slated to feature a co-main event of Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, and there's speculation that the fight may be moved to main event status.
UPDATE: According to Carwin's Twitter, the fight has been moved to UFC 108 on January 2nd.

For a sport that is supposed to be the ultimate tough guy competition, this is a pussy move!! Freaking Man up for crying out loud.
This is the beginning of MMA turning into boxing. Which means it will be irrelevant soon enough.

Give Carwin to Nogueira so he smoke this shit-talking, overrated piece of crap. It took a staph infection and a meniscus injury for Mir take him down. Carwin isn't gonna be that fortunate, regardless of the training time.

Hehe, Pork Lester got the swine flu! *Makes random pig noises*

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By: seduso (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:35 PM
Get Carwin the fuck off that card, IMHO. The choice of having him plow some tomato can just to keep the event status 'up' versus potentially compromising his build with Brock isn't even worth risking.
Posted By: Meirsch (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:35 PM
If Cain or Nog is ready to go put him in with Carwin.
Posted By: Adam (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:36 PM
carwin a lucky lucky man,for the 1st time in the octagon we would of seen the f5

Pending medical suspensions, Machida vs. Shogun 2. Book it!

NO FUCKING WAY..... NO Brock fears Carwin.....
Posted By: Ja (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:50 PM
Ortiz/Griffin II is the new main...how about swapping the Brock/Carwin and Mir/Kongo fights...that way we can close out the year with a Heavyweight Title match.
Posted By: Ramsey (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:52 PM
I want my rematch at ufc 106
Posted By: Shogun (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:55 PM
Cue idiots claiming Brock fears Carwin.
Posted By: Vordeo (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:57 PM
That's shitty news.
Posted By: Bruno (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 04:58 PM
Maybe Carwin will end up fighting Cain Velasquez after all.
Posted By: Jeffrey (Registered) on October 26, 2009 at 04:59 PM
Being sick is no easy task!... but if it's been the last 3 1/2 week's how come he dind't mentioned it... during all his "Carwin suck's & it's not worth my time, interview's"...?
Soo it look's like it's let's screwed the #1 contender's time of the year, in the UFC... Firts Shogun, Know Carwin, get's pre Screwed... Who's Next Diego, Anyone...?

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALS!!!!
Posted By: Guest#1506 (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:15 PM
Well that sucks...i guess the Lesnar fans are off the hook till 108 or later. Carwin or Velasquez will expose him then....
Que hate...

Can't wait for the "Brock fears Carwin" posts.
Fortunately, I won't have to.

- Some Real Options:
1) Pull Mir, From Kongo = Nogueira vs. Mir II
2) Pull Swick, From Hardy = GSP vs. Swick (not that he deserves it, but there is no time)
3) Sign "Hendo", Henderson Vs. Marquartd
4) Sign "Hendo", Hendo vs. GSP, catch Weigth
Fantasy Booking:
5) Pull Evans, From Thiago + Dana, can Suck Rampage's Dick, Rampage vs. Evans
6) Machida vs. Rua II...
7) GSP vs. Alves vs. Fitch vs. Koscheck - Fatal 4 Way
8) Cain Vs. Dos Santos - Last Man Standing
9) Liddell vs. Cro Cop - Loser Leaves Town Match

12) Brock vs. Swine Flu - Blindfold Match

This would've been much better news (not that it's positive) had this happened a week ago. That way, they could've pulled Valazquez from 104 and thrown him in with Carwin at 106 as was the original plan for 104 anyway.
Posted By: AGM (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:40 PM
Brock is scared of carwin,,,,let's say he recovers in a week,,he still got time to train!
Posted By: joel lopez (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:40 PM
Unfortunate, but it cannot be helped. If Mir can get an extension due to injury, Brock should get one for prolonged illness (especially if it's the swine flu).
On a side note, this only pushes the fight back two months, so it's not as if we're being completely robbed of a fight. If Brock was afraid, he would push for a cancellation, not a postponement.
Posted By: Adam B. (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:43 PM
Unless he has the swine flu he's excused,,, other then that come 0n man the fuck up!!! Noguera fought sick...a staff infection is serious! But a runny nose itchy throat,,etc,,, bo0o0o0!
Posted By: joel lopez (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:45 PM
And there go the buys.
Posted By: dfdf (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 05:49 PM
I agree with the people who think it is wimpy for Brock to pull out of the fight. This puts a major chink in the armour of the UFC's "tough guy" persona. I don't recall a fighter ever pulling out of a fight this early due to illness. Is Dana going to go on the internet and bash Brock now like he did with Rampage Jackson. Because basically the exact same thing has just now happened. Brock needs to suck it up and train. Tank Abbott was once pulled out of the stands as a spectator to fill in as a late replacement. Come on Brock, man up!

Yeah Nog fought sick and he lost a fight he shouldn't have. Saying someone is a coward for not fighting if they're legit sick is just stupid. Carwin is a threat so if Lesnar is legitimately sick he should take the time to get healthy.

Actually, it does. I have been dealing with it off and on last month and a half. It finally turned into bronchitis. Had to take off work for a week and crap. And I have a desk job. Can't imagine trying to work out and get ready for a fight. He probably never mentioned it cause he didnt expect it to keep going on so long..
Posted By: Guest#6339 (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 06:14 PM
FLU?? Suck it up man, Nog. fought Mir with Staph AND a bum knee!!
This guy's supposed to be the best HW in UFC (if you believe the hype, which I don't). I hope Carwin fucking smashes him when they fight!

who's the bitch now?
Posted By: Joe from Idaho (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 06:37 PM
Son of a fucking bitch. I hope the UFC refunds my ticket...I already bought it, my flight and hotel. This is the SECOND cancelled fight and there is no main event. God damnit.
Posted By: SNM (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 06:55 PM
Lesnar sucks he is finished he only does things on his schedule and if it doesnt go his way he takes his ball and goes home.
Posted By: Radtke (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 06:58 PM
A lot of people are confusing the Flu for a Cold.
A cold is an inconvenience, the flu can kill you. It's not surprising that he's been unable to train for so long, the flu takes the good right out of you.
At least it's only postponed and not cancelled.
Posted By: Craig (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 07:05 PM
Flu?!!?!
Minotauro fought Mir recovering from a frigging STAPH INFECTION and said he could hardly walk!
What a warrior Brock isn't.

these guys train atleast 2 MONTHS HARD trainging b4 a fight.. its already october 26, he'd have less than a month to recover from his sickness and then train less than a month for a fight.. ur crazy
Posted By: wylun (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 07:45 PM
lesnars gonnna get skinny as shit
First of all
Carwin never deserved the shot in the first place, he has not done anything worth a title shot wether hes the same size or bigger gloves or anything
he needs to rank up before taking the top cuz hes bottom shit to me
Posted By: Guest#2191 (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 07:56 PM
To the guys telling Brock to suck it up; STFU. You try training for a big fight with the flu(maybe H1N1).I'd rather see Brock fight at 100% than lose to Carwin at 50%.
Posted By: Steve (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 08:06 PM
Dana told Brock he was jobbing.
Posted By: Guest#3463 (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 08:09 PM
Um...anyone realize we now get Brock/Carwin and Silva/Belfort at the same event?
MANY, MANY BUYS! Tito, this one's all you!

Yeah, have you seen the way these guys, Brock specifically, train for these events? I'm sure you could do that with a terrible shit curdling flu, couldn't you? I for one have trouble standing up when I have a flu.

Brock Fears SwineFlu!!
Posted By: 411guy (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 08:41 PM
BROCK FEARS TEH H1N1~!!!
...
Sucks for the people who had tickets to 106 to watch the fight. That said, since they're still going to fight, I got no problem with it; you damn well better be 100 percent when you step in the Octagon, doubly so when it's for the World Title.
Posted By: Ryan (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 08:51 PM
I won't be ordering this fight anymore. As much as I wanted to see Ortiz vs Griffin II, the undercard doesn't appeal enough.
Too bad, I was really looking forward to Lesnar/Carwin.

"FLU?? Suck it up man, Nog. fought Mir with Staph AND a bum knee!!"
And how'd he do? Oh right, he lost...
Nog might be willing and he might be tough, but one thing he's not is smart.

Posted By: paco smith (Guest) on October 26, 2009 at 10:17 PM
for all you morons saying "Oh Nog did it w/ a staph infection," yeah, he also got his fucking ass kicked and looked like shit. If you wanna say the Nog that fought Mir and the Nog that fought Couture were the same guy, go right ahead. Swine or not, a 3 week flu is serious shit. Hell, it's only a 6 week or so delay, I'll take it, watch Lesnar kill Carwin and then see the Longhorns beat the piss out of Tim Tebow.

Wow what fucking losers you all are! The has been pushed back to UFC 108 (Which is a HELL of a way to start the new year IMO). Let's just hope Brock is back to 100% soon and is back in the gym getting ready to destroy Carwin and have sex with his wife afterwards!
Posted By: Guest#5253 (Guest) on October 27, 2009 at 09:55 AM
FUCK! I wanted to see that oh well get well soon Brock. Happens sometimes when you're training hard espacially when the weather is weird. I remember training for NAGA in NYC and baboom not the flu but a pretty nasty cold which slowed down the training.
Posted By: Paul (Guest) on October 27, 2009 at 10:51 AM
My guess is Silva told White he won't fight on the big Jan 2nd card. White doesn't have a main event. He thinks Tito VS Griffin is good enought to carry the show by itself. He tells Brock to be sick so they can move the fight to Jan and have an instant main event. Win win for all. Except for the fans, but who cares about that anyway?
